Stem Cell Therapy for Feet and Toes

Foot and toe function

With twenty-eight bones and thirty-three joints in the foot, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are common causes of ankle, foot, and toe pain.

While the joints of the toes are small, they endure significant weight-bearing stress when walking, or performing athletic activities. People experiencing a loss of foot and ankle function can find maintaining a reasonable level of daily activities and general health challenging.

Many causes of foot and toe pain

There are many other causes of foot pain and discomfort, including bunions, Hallux Limitus or limited movement in the big toe, gout, and pain in the Sesamoid bones located below the main joint of the big toe, which can become painful and inflamed because of acute or chronic trauma.

Other pain causing conditions include torn ligaments, ingrown toenails, cuts or scrapes, blisters, and corns and calluses.

Acute gouty arthritis can cause a great amount of discomfort, when uric acid builds up in the blood, forming crystals that deposit into joints. Gouty arthritis can present as a red, hot, and intensely painful joint.

Non-medical approaches

Foot-care and footwear are both important in maintaining healthy foot function.

Non-medical responses include well-fitted shoes, made of leather that is light and flexible at the joint with lace or Velcro fasteners being preferable. Corrective soles (orthotics), exercise, dietary changes and supplements, weight loss and hot and cold therapy are also common responses. Medications involving painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help to reduce pain and inflammation.

Stem cell therapy or surgery

In some cases, surgery may be needed. As a less invasive response, stem cell therapy may also help.

The benefits of successful stem therapy include pain relief and improved mobility, a return to normal activity sooner because the limits to normal activity, painful and lengthy rehabilitation periods that may be required following hand or wrist surgery are not required.

Talk frankly with your doctor or medical specialist about your hopes, expectations, and risks associated with various treatments including stem cell.
